I bought this Jeep in 2002 with a tired 258ci I6, a worn out Peugot slushbox, factory front axle that didn't engage when in 4wd, and a rear differential that was about to go. Not to mention all the wiring problems that I encountered with this piece. I had fixed most of the wiring when I decided to get the Jeep built. I had a local custom shop build(screw me over) my YJ the first time around. I salvaged an AMC 360 and Dana 44's from a 1988 Grand Wagoneer and built the engine in my garage. I also got a NP435 from the same salvage yard and mated a Dana 20 with a twin stick to it. The custom shop built my axles, did a spring over, installed the engine and took ALOT of my money! I kept it in this configuration for a few years but kept having to go back and fix things that that shop had done wrong. I got tired of my Jeep pretty quick and decided it was time to get rid of it or try again. So my roommates and I decided we would tackel the next build. In one night we had the body off of the frame and proceded with the on-going project. I bought an LS1 from a salvage yard out of a 1999 WS6 Trans Am, and ordered a NV4500 and NP231 combo from a transmission shop I found online. The next several months it was a race to complete my Jeep as I had received an assignment to be stationed overseas; I am in the U.S. Air Force. My roommates and friends all would help me out where/when they could. I had the whole Jeep sandblasted once it was completely apart. Repaired some rust spots on the body and reinforced/repaired a few rust holes in the frame including the rear shock mounts needed to be re-fabricated. We sprayed POR15 on the frame, and shot new paint and/or Line-X on every other surface. Currently the Jeep is sitting at my friends house in my hometown, unfinished and awaiting my return to start wrenching on it again. Only a few minor things remain ot be completed. The Jeep's current configuration is 1999 EFI LS1 5.7L V8 with computer tuning, NV4500 transmission, NP231 transfercase with SYE, SOA conversion and BDS 4" YJ lift leaf springs & 1.5" shackels, 35x12.5-16 Super Swamper SSRs, 16x10 Ultra type 60 aluminum wheels, Dana 44 F&R w/ 4:11 gears and Blue Torch Truss/Covers, Detroit Locker in the rear, Lock Right in the front and Warn Premium hubs, Smitybilt SRC front bumper, Shrockworks sliders, custom rear bumper/tire carrier, custom transmission mount/skidplate, S.S. braided fuel lines, all S.S. brake lines, custom aluminum radiator, Flex-a-lite electric fan, Aeromotive fuel pump/filter/regulator/fuel rails, Autometer Ultralite gauges, Tuffy lock boxes/center console, custom driveshafts, Poison Spyder trail corners, L.E.D. tail lights, S.S. marine shackels, Warn 9000lbs winch, custom cold air intake, Navajo Brake reservoir & booster, Optima Red top battery, 1" body lift/urethane body mount bushings, AGR steering gearbox, custom headers, Grant steering wheel, and many more small custom items. Unfortunatly my military obligations got in the way of me completing my Jeep before I left for overseas.
The future holds 39.5" Boggers, Allied beadlock wheels, coil springs front and rear, on-board air, mount my PIAA lights, new seats, roll cage, and maybe someday a supercharger.
