About my J Series Pickup

It started out as a 1979 J20, California edition...2v-360,TH400/BW1339 Quadratrac, GVWR was rated 7,600 lbs. Tan and Brown, Levis interior, 8 foot bed, etc.

I bought it from my Dad in '96, and started changing things until it appears as it is now - a retro styled 4-door, short-box, Jeep pickup, licensed as a custom vehicle with a State-issued VIN. Its a '76 Wagoneer cab on the basically stock '79  J20 chassis. I like the stronger frame/axles of the J20 versus any of the other Civvy Jeeps. It now has a tiring, warmed-up AMC 401 V8, built with Edelbrock and TRW goodies, a rebuilt AMC/GM TH400, and re-full-timed Quadratrac 2-speed transfer case. The front Dana 44 and rear Dana 60 axles are stock and still retain the open diffs. The rear suspension has a 3/4" Addaleaf and a 1" block on the bottom of the stock 2-leaf spring-pack.

Aside from a few modernizations and "tweaks" this truck is basically how a stock AMC/Jeep built 4-door J-truck could have rolled off the assembly line in 1976.

Tires: 285/75x16R Maxxis 751s (good onroad and moderate mud/snow) but taiwanese rubber apparently cracks prematurely.
Wheels: American Racing, 8 lug, 16x8".

A head-turnin', gas-burnin', torque-makin' grocery-gettin', kid-transporter.
